James T. Smith, Principal

Critical 1 Consulting, Inc.

James Smith of Critical 1 Consulting has written several papers and made a number of invited presentations in communications and information technologies.  In addition to those papers that are publicly available, he has written extensive (often 100+page) technical documents for employers and contracts in these technology sectors that range in scope from assessments of existing technologies, systems, and business opportunities, to forward-looking strategic analyses (i.e., five-year plans) in such diverse areas as:

  • Internet, telephony, cellular integration and convergence, e.g, VoIP, SIP, IMS, WiFi, WiMax.
  • Collaboration technology trends, from 3-D CAVE virtual reality environments, to distributed intelligent agent augmented collaboration.
  • Net-Centric computing, including the global information grid (GIG), service oriented architectures (SOA), DoDAF
  • Machine-to-machine (M2M) studies, from migration of legacy infrastructures and systems, to the development of new sensor network technologies.
